Soundcard Issue? or speakers?

I had 5.1 surround sound running through my speakers from the pc with no issues at all, aswell as my xbox 360.

However more recently it stopped doing this and now only plays audio through the rear speakers with the rear speaker cable pluggedinto the "front" port of the soundcard.

I presumed the soundcard was knackered so i've bought a nw soundcard... Xonar d2.
But its still doing this

the surround sound still plays perfectly through my 360 however.

Strange behavor.

the amp is the yamaha RX-V361

Could be a windows update u did without knowing ?
I would install the latest drivers for the soundcard.

why would it be the soundcard though when i've just put a new soundcard in and its still doing the same thin as it did with the previius soundcard?

Plays surround sound fine with the x360, but thats through different channels... so the speakers aren't damaged
