Hi all,
[rant]
Well seeing as I thought Logitech has made a slip-up with the X540 system I purchased mid-2007 which gave an annoying "crackle" over the speakers, I decided to give them another chance and just pay that little bit more for a quality system. Now I know all electronics come with their little problems but this has been getting a little much.
First of all it arrived with one of the rear fins on the subwoofer slightly bent, which I wasn't too fussed about at the time but for a £200 setup, I did expect a little more care to be taken and it does appear to be damage caused during manufacture rather than a returned product which has been shipped out again since all of the packaging was there.
Anyway, so since I got it, I heard about problems with fuses being blown which didn't seem a problem itself since I replaced this which then "blew" upon switching the unit off and it wouldn't power on again. My Dad then tested the "blown" fuse (handy having an electrician about!) to find out it wasn't blown at all which led me to suspicisions. Anyway, so now is the final straw; it won't power on at all so it's going back.

Right, now that I've cleared that out of my system I can think about getting a new setup

My budget is £200 since this is what I will be getting back from my current setup as a refund and will be looking to get something with similar specifications but definately 5.1 surround sound. One thing I also have as a want is a "control centre" or a remote control at the very least so I don't have to fiddle about behind a subwoofer or something.
Another thing I will be looking for is fairly small speakers since three will need to go onto my desk and I only have a limited amount of wall space behind to mount the rears - obviously it would be nice to future-proof the system and have wall-mountable speakers all around.
Now, as this is going to be mainly used for monitoring video recordings on my computer, I obviously want powerful yet clear sound and an adjustable subwoofer so I can keep the neighbours happy but also the ability to use it as gaming speakers for my Xbox 360. Now, I already have a setup which has phonos going in and out of a switch from the PC and Xbox 360 which works perfectly well and I wouldn't want to have to interfere with it if possible.
I think that's everything....bottom line is a 5.1 surround sound system, remote control/centre, wall-mountable speakers, reasonable size speakers and a budget of £200.
I'll be sorry to see the Z5500 go but with all of the problems I just can't be bothered anymore and just want a decent, working setup.
