Behringer C-1 Question

Hi,

I do alot of VOIP and I was using this mic:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...&doy=29m2#spec

Until it stopped working. I even used it the plug into my MiniDisc and when a subject was a good meter away it produced amazing results for just £20. I would like to try something else though and I have come accross this:
http://www.dv247.com/invt/28184/

Theres a problem. Its XLR, so I need an XLR to 3.5mm gold connection, cable to connect this to my PC mic socket. I also read I need a preamp? The reason why I liked the mic above so much is because it had a battery and was louder than me plugging a normal dynamic mic in because it had a battery I suppose it gave it a boost in volume, will this mic have that boost of volume? Could I use it over the head of a subject (a bit like a boom mic in the films) but still produce good quality for VOIPing

So how can I use this mic to support my MiniDisc and computer both 3.5mm plugs.

Thanks
