Red face SPDIF out on Sound Blaster Live Player 5.1

Hi All,

I've just got my 3.5mm jack to RCA connector to plug into my Sound Blaster Live but I can't get Dolby Digital signal to my amp I've enabled SPDIF out within PowerDVD but the only feed the amp seems to get is a Pro Logic one. Do I need to enable it at a system level somewhere? (I'm running W98 SE). Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Orbital

PS I have tried doing a search for the above problem but it keeps screwing up for some reason! Anybody else getting this using the search facility or is it just me?

Hi, i'm not sure but i think you have to use a stereo 3.5mm jackplug to two phonos(red/white) etc. One lead (red or white) then gives PCM the other Dolby Digital/DTS etc.
Make sure the SPDIF is enabled in both Soundblasters software(sound setup) as well as PowerDVD.

To get DD5.1 SPDIF out use a mono phono-3.5mm jack cable (or phono-phono RG59 and phono-jack converter as I do) connected to the yellow jack.

When I got my SBlive1024 nearly 2 years ago, DD5.1 was not supported but I enabled it using DVD Genie (search Google) a great little program that lets you fool around with all kinds of stuff.

Finally, I have seen a post somewhere stating that the SBlive SPDIF output is logic level not 75 ohm. This may well be true, I have not got round to checking, but my processor is happy with the yellow output.

Good luck,

Right that's that sorted. Lovely Dolby Digital is with me once more I hadn't de-selected the AC3 decoding in the Soundblaster Setting's, so it was feeding my amp an already decoded stream! Silly me

I have another problem though which is this. Whenever I click on one of the buttons on the menu part of a film, say to select a particular scene I get funny clicking noise which is really annoying. Has anyone else had this problem or know of it?

Cheers

Dave
