Angry Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

I have same problem here ,components as follows Ati 4870 card connected through the ati adapter to my Yamaha Rx v868 then to my Pioneer plasma .
Ati control shows DVI instead of HDMI therefore no sound .
When i connect the card directly to the tv it shows up as a HDMI device on the control panel but it is only two channels.
I have installed the latest 8.10 drivers and the latest ATI HD AUDIO DRIVERS FROM REALTEK. TO NO AVAIL..

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

I have a
Gainward HD4850

Win XP SP3
Cat 8.10 / 8.11
Realtek HDMI 2.03 driver

and only Stereo PCM gets out:

I think there are two options for me:
1. delete the Edid reg entries
2. use Vista

Or is there another?

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

Has any headway been made on this problem? I just setup a new Onkyo 806 connected to my HTPC with an ATI 4650 and it reports as a DVI connection. I'm running Cat 8.11 with Realtek 2.03.

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

I did have the problem of no sound with my ATI HD 3650 and Onkyo SR606, but, yesterday, after using Wo0zy's research, I found that the problem was resolved by routing the HDMI cable from the computer into HDMI input 1 on the SR606 (it only works with HDMI input 1, and not he other 3 HDMI inputs). Only then did it register as a "DTV" device in Catalyst Control Center and not a "DVI".

I am using ATI's 8.11 drivers and Realtek's 2.09 HDMI audio drivers which I had found on Realtek's site here: ftp://202.65.194.211/pc/audio/HDMI_R209.exe

Thanks Wo0zy - it had taken me many months and tickets with ATI to get through this problem!

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

I was having the same problem on my Onkyo 706 and Dell Studio 1735. Thanks to this thread, I have audio. I loaded the latest Catalyst and Realtek ATI HDMI drivers. The Onk display sometimes says Dolby Digital in the lager brightblue letters and always has the smaller, red Dolby Digital on. But I can'tget actual 5.1 to play. Not from videos or from DVD's. Any ideas?

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

I have had chance to play further today and my findings are as follows,

To ouput sound from the 2400 pro card with the dvi - hdmi adaptor you need to output in either 1280 x 720 (720p) or 1920 x 1080 (1080i).

This appears to be the only way that the Onkyo905 can understand the signal and use it which makes sense.. This is also the case with a 32" Sony lcd i have it will only work with a 720p resolution.

My problem now is that i have a border around the screen on my Pioneer 508 about an inch wide all around the picture.

Also I have only been able to get 2 channel sound so far and idea's

I have binned all the ATI application stuff and it is saying under display adaptors ATI Radeon HD 2400 I am using driver ver. 8.541.0.0

Any thoughts?

I changed the hdmi cabel to the dhmi port 1 (DVD) and now I have sound and windows see the hdmi port..
I use a gigabyte motherboard and the onboard hdmi (780G).
So for now I'm happy...

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

Thanks woozy for all the helpful advice. I have the same problem with an HSI 3870 X2 and my new Onkyo sr576. I'm using Catalyst 8.12, realtek 2.13. The audio work with a direct hdmi connection to my Samsung TV but not to my Onkyo AVR. I haven not tried source 1 yet but either way it is rediculous that it has been over 6 months and this issue has not been resolved by ATI. My sound and video works fine from my Xbox 360 with HDMI.

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

OK Guys,

I made progress!!

1. First get the latest 9.1 Catalyst drivers. There is a good chance your card is not yet supported so please search for drivere .inf modding. Try latest "Mobility Modder", it should work, follow the instructions on their site.

2. Install latest Realtek HDMI audio driver (R2.03), and Realtek audio codec (R2.04)

3. Restart your system

4. connect HDMI from your laptop to HDMI 1. Yamaha port (DVD titled). Other Yamaha HDMI ports will only process "Stereo" chanell.

You should see red HDMI title displayed on your Yamaha LCD! If not, disconnect HDMI cable and connect again.

The new driver seems to force Realtek chip to send EDID sygnal to the Yamaha AVR, so AVR gets it is connected to HDMI instead of DVI.

Now getting 5.1 & 7.1 surround through HDMI!

My OS Vista 32bit, SP1
GC Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3470
AVR Yamaha RX-V463
LCD LG500047

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

I have problems with no sound via HDMI again...

My config is as follows:
Vista Home Premium x64
ATI HD4850
Yamaha RX-V663
Drivers: Realtek HD Audio Drivers 2.14, Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Device 2.13, Catalyst 9.1, modified EDID for RX-V663

It was working fine (PCM, DD, DTS) until I have connected HDMI repeater and 2nd HDMI-HDMI cable to it. Now I can see HDMI logo on my receiver but no sound comes in. I also got this warning from ATI driver:

"An HDMI to DVI display connection has been detected. In order to hear audio on your HDMI based TV or display, you will need to have a separate audio connection from your computer sound outputs to your TV or audio equipment."

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

Hey.
I have the same problem.
I'm using:

Vista 64
EAH 3650
Onkyo SR606

Drivers:

1º - Display Driver; ATI WDM Integrated Driver; Catalyst Control Center v.9.10
2º - Realtek HD audio drivers v.2.36
3º - ATI HDMI Audio Device v.2.35

I'm using HDMI port 1 in Onkyo 606.

And my connection HDMI is "not plugin".

And when i go to setup in my onkyo 606 and chose HDMI 1 for audio appears this message:

“An HDMI to DVI display connection has been detected. In order to hear audio from your HDMI based TV or display you will need to have a seperate audio connection from your computer sound outputs to your TV or audio equipment”

What am i doing wrong?
Sorry for my english.

Re: Unable to selcet ATI HDMI Audio when connected to Onkyo TX-SR606

Hi Jocker_Boy,

please check this:
1. is DVI-HDMI Adaptor (from ATI) connected to the correct port on the graphhics card? (check your documentation)
2. do you see 2nd display in ATI Control Center (Onkyo itself or TV connected to Onkyo)?
3. display is extend to 2nd display (connected via HDMI)
4. default device for playing audio can be set in Windows to ATI HDMI audio device (not sure exatly about the name, using another PC now)

Also check update of the Catalyst Driver ...

1. the dvi-hdmi adaptor is yeloow and is in the correct port.
2. i only see onkyo display, and appears as dvi, not hdmi
3. i only see one display
4. i can't select hdmi, because the ccc identify my onkyo as dvi and not hdmi.

i have the latest versions of realtek and ccc
