Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Warning.

This is a warning to all users of the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 sound card who are thinking of upgrading to Windows Vista.
If you upgrade to Vista you will lose all functionality of your sound card. You can download the beta 2 driver from the Creative site but this will only provide you with very basic poor quality sound. All utilities for this card are incompatible with Vista and will not work. You will lose the use of Dolby Digital,DTS,EAX,Graphic equiliser, recording functions etc, even the basic bass/treble will not work, the only thing that you can control is the volume.
I understand (and hope) that Creative are working on a fix for this but it does'nt look like we'll have it anytime soon.

Thats ok, Vista is a DRM infection masquerading as an O/S. Well worth steering clear of it for many more reasons than Creative drivers anyway.

Woolybully, I believe the same problem applies to the whole Creative range. I'm on an Audigy 2 ZS and the same problem applies. Creative drivers have always been poor and this is no exception.

They expect to have new 'non-beta' drivers available in March...

Comments like these are not helpful and are becoming irritating. If you just want to slag off Vista do it somewhere else - there are plenty of places to choose from.

Back to the OP: Creative Labs have a history of things like this. I had the same problem some years ago moving to XP. No doubt they will come up with a set of drivers and applications eventually.

I have been stung also, I only bought my audigy 4 a couple of months ago and now have to contend with very poor sound and my mic/headset are shot too!

Yippie! Another well informed person passing on idotic views of Vista.

As for the Creative driver situation, yes everyone who owns a Creative SFX has been stung by this. My suggestion to you is to hassle them non-stop.

For now I would advise people to use onboard sound.

OTOH if the OP wants to actually use the hardware he bought (for a reason) he could just stick with XP.
