Kdl 40w4000 on vga, 1080p = half screen size?

Hello, when I put my pc on 1980x1080 the screen goes half the size. Is this normal? Is it cuz its not suppoted by vga? would it work decent with dvi or hdmi? (dont have such cable) Or is it that my card aint good enough?

I connect a 40w4000 through DVI>HDMI @1980x1080 with 1:1 pixel mapping on the image is perfect.

You also get a cleaner picture with DVI/HDMI.

I haven't read the manual on your specific model but many Sony's automatically underscan 1080 feeds via any input other than HDMI to ensure the full desktop is dsiaplayed so you wind up with a border.

Short version don't use VGA for 1080, use a DVI-HDMI lead or converter if you graphics card has DVI out or HDMI to HDMI if it has it. That's basicly the only way I know that you will be able to get what you want. Just remember to set the disply mode appropriate for a 1x1 pixel map so it's not overscanned. You will have to check your manual but it will be in one of the display settings somewhere.

Re: Kdl 40w4000 on vga, 1080p = half screen size?

Hi, hope you don't mind me posting in your thread but I'm trying to view a 720p video from my samsung netbook to 40w4000 which only has vga output. I'm not too worried about the quality as it is only a home video but is there anyway I can change my Sony resolution from 1080p to 1280x800 to match my netbook and therefore remove the border?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Sorry I have found out now - just press the aspect button.
