Swapping sim in k800i

I've been on O2 PAYG Genie for a few years now and my k800i has never failed.
I have a 128 memory card intalled and "think" most of my phone book contacts, photos, songs, videos etc are saved to the card and phone memory.
The status says I have 54mb free on the phone.
I have just purchased a virgin media sim card and will be swapping over very soon.
I have the PAC code from O2.
I have tried the virgin sim card in the phone and all photos and phone book contacts etc are still in my phone, so am I to assume everything is saved internally and not on the sim?
Once I swap the sims and swap my existing number with the PAC code, will I still retain all the files and contacts, once virgin take over?
If not, do I need to back up all the files to a sim card reader and if so, how do these work?

Re: Swapping sim in k800i

Swapping the sim or the provider will not affect your contacts in the slightest, don't worry.

When you save a contact the handset, up till a few years ago, would offer you the choice of where to store it, on the sim or the phone. But more recently storage has defaulted to the handset, because sims hold tiny amounts of info, sometimes even cutting short the names of contacts, so they're not actually very good as as storage devices for contacts anyhow.

The SE k800i is a wonderful phone and it's very easy to export, bluetooth and back up your contacts en masse - I have an iPhone and it's nothing like as flexible in that regard.

You ought to back up your contacts externally anyhow. If you use a PC I recommend the freeware program MyPhoneExplorer from fjsoft.at. I used it for years -it's incredibly powerful and friendly. I miss the way texts coming into my phone would pop up on my desktop allowing me to use the keyboard to type replies, without even taking my SE phone out of my pocket. Wish the re was an equivalent for the iPhone...
