Just had mine "sort of installed today". Sky bloke wouldnt change the LNB on the dish on my Chimney so he put a whole new one on the wall. Looks OK to me but the other half will be having words, no doubt.

Sky + box came out of the most shagged packaging you have ever seen. No remote or scart in the box. Was a V2 box though.

+ box couldnt find the transponders even though signal was good. Box was shagged. Sky bloke rang one of his mates who is supposed to bring another one round later today.

Hope its a new one. First Sky bloke said he had a V1 box in his van. NFI, (Not F***ing Interested) was my reply.

Its good to be patient I suppose.

Shouldnt we expect a new box even though it "only" cost £199?

You are entitled to a new box, you are not buying second hand.

how do you spot a V1 from a V2?

Right the Sky bloke came back an hour ago with a new box. Worked first time.

The V2 box is basically white and much smaller than the V1 box which is black and silver I think. The packaging it came in said V2 as well.

The V2 box is a smidgen wider than my old Panasonic STB so it just fitted nicely.

Box seems to make a fan/disc like noise which is 100 times quiter than my PC but there all the same.

Solution .. turn it up.

Yes all new hardware should really enter your home in a sealed retail package complete with manuals/remote and batteries.
Anything less surely points to someone along the supply chain either stealing or replacing brand new hardware with refurbished/old items. Even damaged packaging should raise the eyebrow, after all how many of us will avoid the dinted tin of beans

Difference mainly between V1 and V2 is size and possibly internal electronics. But from a users point of view its smaller and a different colour.

Now about the fan noise on Sky + any ideas?
