Connecting 2nd hand Sky+ box

Ok, my set up is as follows - Sky HD in living room, multi room in son's room with regular digibox, multi room in daughter's room with regular digibox.

My son is moving out next week, and I want to buy a 2nd hand Sky+ box from eBay and put it in my daughter's room, then simply run the cable from my son's room into my daughter's so she can have Sky+.

Will I have to do anything after I set it up? As I have Movies & Sports I guess I'll need to call Sky and tie my daughter's card to the new box, but will I have to tell them to "activate" her Sky+, or will I need to mess about in the box's "hidden" setup menu?

Cheers

Re: Connecting 2nd hand Sky+ box

Simply tell Sky to enable + features when re-pairing the card

Cool. Any tips on where to get a 2nd hand box and how much they might be? eBay ones seem quite steep

This has about 25 minutes to go and the bids will increase no doubt, plus it depends what you want - but £25 + shipping isn't too bad
Thomson Sky+ Box on eBay, also, Satellite Boxes Receivers, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 19-Oct-08 20:00:00 BST)

EDIT: Just out of interest, the winning bid was £46 + £10 shipping

Re: Connecting 2nd hand Sky+ box

Cool, I got one from someone on these boards, should arrive tomorrow.

A few days ago I ran the cables, etc, so all I have to do now is connect up the new box, then ring Sky.

I presume though that if I ring Sky tomorrow to pair up the new box to the card, then pack the new box away for Xmas, my daughter will be left with no TV as the card will no longer work with her existing DigiBox?

True, but seeing as the "pairing" will be done whilst you are on the phone, you can do it at the last minute, or on the day.

Re: Connecting 2nd hand Sky+ box

Yeah but I doubt they'll be open at 6am on Xmas day when she wants to use it!

I'll maybe just do it on Xmas eve when she's not in, I presume she'll still get BBC 1, etc on her old box with the "wrong" card? She can make do for 1 day!
