Coaxial wiring to another room - advice required

Hi,

I am new to the forum after finding it on google. I have read a number of similar posts, but none seem to answer my (simple I hope) query.

I am in a new build house. Coaxial cable tv points in all rooms, double socket in lounge. The loft space has most of the rooms terminated but not connected anywhere. Three rooms are connected, lounge, snug and bedroom. All three rooms are linked to an external aerial signal connection box. Through this connection the sky + box in the lounge is viewable in the bedroom and we use a magic eye to chnage the channels. We have a multiroom sub and another sky + box in the snug. The aerial is basically redundant as we watch only the digital channels on sky.

I am now going to attempt to install a new tv in the kitchen and try and run the second sky + box we have in the snug to this room. I have a few issues, and as a non-technie would appreciate any input you could suggest to make this as sumple and cost effective as possible.

My assumption is that if I can remove the snug from the linked system described above, then link directly the coaxial cable from the snug to the kitchen then I should be able to install a magic eye and all connections should work fine. Is this a correct assumption? (I appreciated the sound/picture quality will not be amazing)

As there are around 8 wires terminated in the loft space how do I work out which goes to each room or is this just trial and error? Also as I have no power source in the attic how do I connect the wires, is this just a case of getting female/male connectors or do I need some kind of connecting equipment?

I now appreciate I could have perhaps avoided a multiroom subscription by splitting my 1 sky + box to multiple rooms, bearing in mind my issues described above would you suggest I should still consider this?

I hope I have explained my issues correctly and thanks for your help.

Yes you are correct, if you tried to run it thru your existing Loftbox you would probably have remote problems, as both Sky boxes would respond to any remote commands.

You should just be able to terminate the cables with the appropriate connector. As for determining which is which, trial and error is one way, or if you have a multimeter with a continuity test, you could twist the core and screen of each cable together (untwisting them when finished) and test for continuity at each tv point around the house. Label them up in the loft for future use.

The main advantage of multiroom is the ability to watch different channels in different rooms, if you are happy without this ability, them I would say with your current system and wiring it would be fairly easy to get sky in all rooms, but all showing the same channel.

Just realised I might have made a wrong assumption about your setup. You say that you have an external aerial switch box,do you have any more details? Does it have any spare outputs?

Thanks very much. The aerial switch is full I think.

When you say 'appropriate connector, can you please be more specific? Thanks very much and sorry for being a bit dim!

You say you have 8 cables "terminated" in the loft. What do you mean by that? Do all cables go into the aerial splitter?

How many inputs and outputs are there on this aerial splitter?

Are you certain this splitter isn't powered?

Re: Coaxial wiring to another room - advice required

When I say terminated I meant just stop, no connections and just the end of the wires bare.

Thanks
