Sky 'Multi Room' = Offsite?

Hypothetical question

If I was to take up multi room at home, had the box installed etc but then packed the box & viewing card up and took it to another property with a dish already fitted (holiday home, second home) would the multi-room still work?

Basically can Sky tell if your multi room box is actuallty a few hundred miles away from the main box, rather than a few meters, and then cancel the subscription ??

This is the exact reason, why they require connection to the phoneline for multiroom installation. Basically the boxes regularly do a call back, if they don't all call back from the same number (or don't callback at all). Sky will send you a letter reminding you to plug them into the same phoneline.

i know some one who does just this, they told sky they only had one phone socket with no possibilty of adding more. sky told him that on the first day of each month plug the second box into the phone socket and to go into the menu to "force a call back" from the second box.

hope this helps.

That's very trusting of Sky

Wonder if we can all do that

Advice IMHO best ignored - callbacks are made at random intervals

You could get away with infrequent use at the holiday home for two or three weeks at a time (I take a box and card on holiday (camping/caravanning) up to 3 or 4 times a year with no problems) but certainly no way for permanent use.
