Record On Second Sky + Box

I have a Sky HD box in my lounge, and am considering inserting my old Sky + box upstairs in the bedroom as a free view box. Just a quick question - with no card in the box (ie a FTA only receiver) can I still use the Sky + functionality (I have a CT63 cable already ready from the LNB) for free?

Thanks

No. You'll have to take out multiroom (or at least pay Sky £10 per month for Sky+ functionality without a Sky TV subscription) to enable Sky+ functionality on the second box.

What "functionality" are you looking for?

(If you have the cable hooked up to the LNB, in your bedroom, have you actually tried it?)

I "thought" that was dropped months ago, but am willing to be proved wrong.

Re: Record On Second Sky + Box

Which is why, if the OP does want to be able to record on his second box, he would do better taking out multiroom and getting the same channels on his second box (plus the ability to record them) for the same cost as being able to record just the free channels (£10 per month either way). The only downside is he will have to connect both boxes to the same phoneline (and he would be taking out a new 12 month subscription for the multiroom account).

Re: Record On Second Sky + Box

Hi

I'm thinking of doing the same sort of thing. We have Sky + downstairs and
a standard box upstairs with multi room subscription. I was thinking of buying a Sky HD box on its own to replace the standard box upstairs and just get the subscription channels and free to air HD channels (BBC HD etc). I obviously only have one wire from the dish upstairs. Can I still use the Sky + functions but only record the channel that is currently on. I'm not too bothered about being able to record two channels at once because most of the time I set thing to record is when i'm out so I can just leave it on the right channel.

This would be easier to do because I can just buy the box and hook it straight up withour having to get a second wire installed.

Anyone know whether this is OK to do?

Thanks

Peter

Re: Record On Second Sky + Box

Yeah you can do that no problem. You'll need to let Sky know when you change the boxes but make it clear you DO NOT want the £10 HD mix.
