Running SKY throughout the House

Hello folks. I have just moved into a new house (new build) and Im trying to get my head around all the wiring and what the best thing is to do. For Audio I've decided to go Sonos, but for Video Im unsure of the technology and the design I should follow. Currently I have Sky+ (but not installed, I took the box and card from my old house and have yet to erect the dish). The rooms all have coax cables going to a central point in the attic, with the main Lounge area having two cables. My Goal is to simply watch any programme in any room, or perhaps even a recorded programme. I would like to avoid any signal degradation and would like to bring the remote with me if possible at all. Another option I would consider is to go Multiroom, with the option of having the two boxes feeding specific rooms, i.e. the master bedroom and/or the sunroom and also the loung and/or the Kitchen. If anybody could help as to what equipment I would need I would greatly appreciate it. To give further background, every room has power in the correct areas, and all rooms have speaker cable, coax and Cat5e all cabled back to the attic. Again any help appreciated. Thanks..

If you mean "picture degradation", you'll need a Digibox in each viewing room.

If you really mean "signal degradation", please state which signal (LNB, RF, Scart... ?) The answer, in any case, is to keep the cable runs as short as possible. You can't avoid signal degradation but you can minimise it.

The CAT5E might be used to transmit AV but the systems tend to be expensive.

Re: Running SKY throughout the House

Sorry I meant picture degradation. I guess I just want to minimise it. Does this sound about right; If I get SKY+ feeding directly into my lounge. From here I can output the picture into a coax socket in the wall up to a TV Link 4 way amp and feed it out to 2 other LCD TV's that are already wired with coax. Is that it in a nutshell? Should the picture degrade somewhat badly? Any idea how I would control the box box from the bedroom, can I buy a TV Link that also handles the IR connectivity, or am I talking rubbish now??

Excuse the ignorance, but I just aint sure and dont want to make a mess of things..

In a nutshell, yes.

"Should the picture degrade somewhat badly?"

Not necessarily if your coax and connectors are good.

"Any idea how I would control the box box from the bedroom, can I buy a TV Link that also handles the IR connectivity?"

Yes. Others on here can recommend one.

"Excuse the ignorance."

I would not call it ignorance - more a lack of knowledge/experience - it is not a failing, in fact, recognising your "lack" of knowledge is a positive in my book.

Neil

PS Don't forget that you will only get mono sound using the RF socket

Yes that's perfect Neil, and Mono sound is fine, as I reckon both LCD's will be somewhere around the 28" size and for want of a better description, secondary TV's. Thanks for your help, cheers
