Phone wont ring after Sky+ install

Help!
We had sky+ installed about 2 weeks ago and ever since our normal BT land line wont ring when someone calls it
Took us ages to figure this out and we've had a load of people calling us!

I have a microfilter, into which plugs the BT broadband line, and then the sky engineer plugged in the sky+ splitter into it and my home phone into the sky splitter.

Microfilter -> Broadband & Sky splitter -> Sky box & phone jack

When sky+ is plugged in and I dial home from a mobile you heard the usual ringing from the mobile handset but the actual house phone doesn't make a sound...
But I can dial out ok from the landline in this setup!

If I unplug the sky splitter which is connected to the sky box and plug my phone back into the microfilter it all works fine, my house phone rings!

Im gonna phone (LOL) sky back up and get them to look at it but will my sky+ work ok while its not connected to the phone line?

Im getting a one or the other service at the moment

Re: Phone wont ring after Sky+ install

For the time being, just remove the Sky Splitter and use the system as normal.

Actually, I am asuming that the SKy Splitter is just a two way splitter for the telephone line, if so, try swapping the port the the telephone is connected to with the Sky one. 'Cause sky does not need a ringer and they may have just plugged it in the wrong way round.

If not, Good Luck with Sky!

Re: Phone wont ring after Sky+ install

We have sky+ in the living room and a normal sky box upstairs for the kids. But there was no phone socket up there so what I think hes done is this.

Ran the sky+ phone cable from the box, through the window, outside the house and in through the other end of the living room by the phone socket. (big house)

Then run the phone cable from upstairs, outside the house, and into the same end of the living room as the phone socket.

So both sky boxes connect to this splitter. It then has two ports on the back of it for normal phones.

The whole thing then plugs into the microfilter.

Yep I have removed the sky splitter but Im wondering if I'll loose any functionality?

pic's attached, soz Ive not cleaned up the bloomin mess hes made drilling holes yet

Re: Phone wont ring after Sky+ install

Then either that box that he has added is faulty, or he has a pair mis-match on the cables he has made that is stopping the ringer some how.

Either way I am afraid it is a call to Sky, you shouldn't be loosing any services but as you have Multi-Room you need to get it sorted so that you don't end up with any extra charges for your system not being able to confirm that both boxes are on the same number.

Re: Phone wont ring after Sky+ install

Out of interest, he should not have drilled through the window frame. Inform Sky and ask for compensation. It can cause the frame to rot and obviously makes life difficult when you need to replace the frame. All holes should go through the wall itself.

The splitter is connected wrongly. You must have only one phone device plugged into the filter, otherwise you can cause an impedance mismatch which will affect the ADSL operation (what's your connection speed?).

For best results, plug the splitter into the phone socket. Plug TWO microfilters into the splitter. Connect phone and Digibox to separate filters.
