Free channels through your SKY+ box
I have just cancelled my SKY+ contract after 9 years with them as they are always trying to con more money out of me for callouts and insurances. I know you just need to say I am not paying this and then they will send someone out for free but every time I ring them up I am on the phone for at lease 45 mins or longer. Which really bugs me as 9 time out of ten there customer support persons first language is not English. This takes you even longer to explain what the problem is and you’re calling on your own money.
Sorry about that little rant and rave but had to get it out.
My main question for you guys is I am keeping my SKY+ box as I believe you can still get the free channels through it and it has a hard drive to record them on also. I would also like to know if anyone has heard of any way of getting additional channels through this without having to bow to the raff of SKY.

Re: Free channels through your SKY+ box
Sorry, you won't be able to record any of the freesat channels with your Sky+ box, even the July waiver of the £10 fee will only be valid for subscription customers.

Re: Free channels through your SKY+ box
The only additional channels you can add are all the other ITV regions, channels testing prior to their launch and not on the Sky EPG and channels such as the now departed Rapture which refuse to pay for inclusion on the Sky EPG.
See here for a full list of channels on 28 east (those in pale cream are FTA)

Re: Free channels through your SKY+ box
When you cancel you Sky contact, be sure to make it clear that you wish to pay £10 a month to retain the recording facility. Once you've cancelled, you can't change your mind.

The word you are looking for is "their" not "there" and "persons" should be "persons' ".
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Re: Free channels through your SKY+ box
If I sell my box and card what should I be looking to get from them as I got this bran new Pace 160 HD PV3 box just 5 weeks ago?
What kind of freeview pvr should I be looking for?
I am also using an in home distribution amplifier (F140) which takes the 9v charge from my sky+ box. Will I still be able to use this or will I have to get another one that plugs into the mains?
I appreciate any ones input to help me try to resolve my problem.

Re: Free channels through your SKY+ box
Take a look in the pvr section for more info on pvr's ,i would guess you would be happy with a Topfield TF5800PVR as you can make the epg look like sky's by adding customised addons.
There are other options ,i have a humax 9200t which i got off these forums cheap which i'm more than happy with.
Sorry can't help with the distribution amplifier question.
