Thomson box problem ?

I've got a Thomson Sky+ box (Model 127k148, SW 1.31 B03, EPG 5.02.f)) I have had a problem with signal quality and replaced the LNB and checked the alignment. The signal quality is ok (if a little fragile - I have problems with trees) after fiddling but after a while I lose lock on both inputs. If I remove the power and then reboot the box it then locks ok.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a potential fault with the box or is it normal to have to reboot it if it loses lock ?

Cheers,

Richard

Re: Thomson box problem ?

You don't mention the model number or age of your Digibox. If it's more than a year old, the power supply capacitors may be failing - in time-honoured Grundig fashion!

Re: Thomson box problem ?

We had major problems with trees....

During the winter time, picture was, well... OK I guess.... but come spring when all the trees were in leaf.... the signal would be very fragile with less than 50% at best....

So had to have a mast installed to mount higher to go over the tops of the trees...... so now have at leat 75% on both strength and quality.... just the rain that craps out the picture now.... and its supposed to be summer time in June..... That's good old blighty weather for you....

Re: Thomson box problem ?

Hi, I posted a similar thing a week ago. I have now moved the dish up a couple of feet. The pole used to point downwards so I just rotated it and put the dish at the top. With a cheapy meter from ebay it's surprising how easy it is to get a good signal.

I don't know about the thomson sky+ boxes, but if they are like the HD boxes from thomson then your problem is exactly the same as the HD box. If you have a torrential downpour or loose the signal a reboot is the only way out even though the system shows a good signal and locked. Poor design thats unable to recover unfortunately.
