Sky Freesat is it box dependant?

Hi guys

Im relocating to amsterdam for 12 months in late jully and was wondering if i might be able to buy a cheap sky box on ebay, and get a freesat card from sky registered to my uk home address, and then take the card and box with me to the dam and use it there with a dish to pick up the free to air/view channels. Just wondering if this is possible and is the freesat is only compatible with the more recent spec sky boxes as its a new service if so can you recommed a specific box, keeping in mind im not looking to spend a great deal. Anyone know what size the dish would have to be to pick up the signal in Amsterdam?


Any advice would be great as i need to get things moving asap if im gonna get hold of a box and card before i leave.

You would need to activate the card in a Sky box connected to a dish in the UK BUT once activated will work in any Sky box.

A Sky box will probably work with a normal Sky minidish in dam but to be on the safe side I would use a 60 cm which should be cheap enough over there.

There is very little to choose between any of the older boxes (the newer the box the faster the channel changes etc)
