Question Upgrading to Sky + Question

I dont fancy spending 170 on a Sky + box and installation. Can i just buy a Sky + box and then plug it into my existing wires/cables from my current Sky box?

I guess this cant be done but want to know before i proceed with looking for a separate recorder box

Thanks

Re: Upgrading to Sky + Question

You need two feeds from the dish and a twin LNB before you can use a Sky+ box properly.

Re: Upgrading to Sky + Question

From what i understand you can just plug it into your existing cable. You will have to change to LNB to a quad LNB. Then you will also need to run an extra cable from the LNB to your Sky + box to enable you to use the Sky + facility, then you will need to inform sky and pair up the card to the new box, also pay the £10 extra per month for Sky + if you do not have 2 or more premium channels.
Hope this is what you were after.
If i am wrong please feel free to put me right.

Re: Upgrading to Sky + Question

Thanks for that. In which case would the 160 spent on a Sky + box and installation be better spent on a different make. Is it possible to get a decent recorder for less than 160? Would i then just use this like a VCR recorder and scart this into the Sky box and record from the on screen picture?

With other makes can you plan programmes like you can with a Sky + box though?
