Telephone Line Not Connected ?

Hi,
A new poster on here so please be patient with me.
I recently tried to purchase a box office movie by pressing the red button, only to be advised on screen that phone line not connected.
I have run system test and everytime it states phone line not connected.
I have checked everything and its is connected, checked outside also to see if the cable is split etc.. but everything is fine.
Anyone had this problem or any ideas.

Thanks Jason

Re: Telephone Line Not Connected ?

Mine keeps saying Line Busy, when it isn't and we do not have broadband or a party line.

But if I tap the socket on the wall it usually clears up. So there must be a loose connection somewhere.

No idea why it is busy rather than not connected with us.

Try that.

The only real test for checking the cable is to put a phone at the end of the extension and see if it will ring out and ring in.

If the phone works either the modem lead is faulty or rhe modem itself has blown.

Yours is indeed a loose or bad connection. A new socket on the end nearly always cures your fault.

Re: Telephone Line Not Connected ?

I had this problem and it was because my BT phone line had the "hide/withheld number" facility on it. This meant when I sent a message to sky ie asking for a movie the software at the sky end could not send the signal back as the number was "withheld" and it could not dail back. You need to add the prefix "1570" in the settings to unblock the "number withheld" option for that specificl call.

It took ages to work out but it has worked ever since. I hope this is useful

Re: Telephone Line Not Connected ?

The other thing might be to check you have a filter on the line, if you have broadband. The signal needs the filter to work properly.

Re: Telephone Line Not Connected ?

The letters that Sky send now when there are line connection problems have been redesigned.

They used to say, something like, Hey You, we know that you are a crook and have deliberately sold your box to someone in Spain but we have got your number matey. So ring us immediately or we will double your bill.

Words to the effect, if you know what I mean.

Now they are rather more polite and go through a series of self diagnosis options that you might not have thought about - including adding in the code for ex-directory numbers (which our Sky installer never did or suggested to us that we had to do). This facilitates an immediate callback to check it is working.

So well done to the Sky customer service team here as they have listened to the complaints about the rather confrontational nature of the original letters. These at least give you the benefit of the doubt that the cause for the failed callback is a problem you do not know about rather than an attempt to cheat Sky.

Re: Telephone Line Not Connected ?

the callback procedures were always on the letters.

no one reads past "you will be charged extra".

but yeah jaycee your pretty spot on about the old letters and the change over to the new ones being nicer.
i like it a lot.
