Black Screen - 2 White Vertical Lines?

Grabbed the controller tonight when I got home from work and sat down, pressed TV Guide to see what was on, and suddenly I was confronted with a black screen with two thick vertical white lines.

I've no idea what caused this, or what it means. I figured I'd ask you guys first as I've had better luck trying to win the lottery than get hold of Sky in recent years.

The box is around 9 months old iirc, (Sky+) and not had any major probs with it really prior to this.

At first I thought it was a loose cable, but I've tried taking them all out and reinserting, all to no avail.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Many thanks,
Bill

Update: Forgot to mention, the sound is working fine and when I press a button on the controller it lights up but doesn't seem to have any other response, for instance pressing record doesn't bring the record light on.

Also: I tried the holding down Back Up during boot process, once again to no avail.

It sounds like a VCR test pattern !

Unplug everything but the Sky's scart to the TV and see if the picture returns.

Cheers, Franc

Thanks mate, I tried doing that originally and it didn't seem to work, then I remembered I don't currently run the box via scart. I use the aerial thing, forgotten the real name.

Basically ran out of scarts on my TV with the PS2 and 360 and stuff, so I opted to put it through there instead.

Seems to be all working merrily now though!

Is there any decent soloutions for avoiding the scart issue? I bought one of those things that lets you put multiple scarts in, but to say it was awful would be a compliment.

Re: Black Screen - 2 White Vertical Lines?

There are some good quality scart switch boxes and you want to get one that supports RGB passthrough.

Other than that source a big brand name CRT with 3 or 4 scarts such as Sony, Phillips, Panasonic etc. There are some great bargains out there to be had as people are foolishly getting rid in favour of flat panels!

Cheers, Franc

Can't argue about getting rid of decent TV's these days, however mine isn't exactly old, and I need about 4 scarts, not many TV's seem to have that many.

Can I ask where I'd get the good scart switch boxes from and what sort of prices I'd be looking at?

Many thanks!
