disitributed wall plate connection. Global comm

I have just switched on my loftbox.

Picture seems poor lots of snow throught the loftbox., aerial alone is fine strong signal.

I hace used a very high grade sat coax.

I am concerned about the global diplex sockets in the rooms. Do I connect the screen. As the entire piece looks metal, I can not see any screening to stop the middle wire conducting with the coax screen.

If I disconnect the screen the signal seems a lot clearer.

Sounds like another ditribution nightmare! Check out my thread "The Ideal Tv Distribution Wiring Diagram" and how your systems differs to the diagram. It's often aerial amps can cause problems.

diagram does not show everything

The diagram shows a cable as an entity. It does not show the screen and inner core going to the face plates, or wiring of the face plate.

Thanks anyway, I need something a bit more specific.

The best thing is not to use faceplates at all they are a weak point in the system. That is why Sky refuse to use them and if you add them after we have done the install it can void your warranty on the Sky digibox.

Usually a face plate has 2 clamps, the first is the one for the braiding which you must ensure connects to the metal of the clamp cleanly (do not overtighten theis one because you do not want to crush the coax. The second is for the 'stinger' (the small solid wire at the middle). This will clamp onto the smaller connector. Make sure no braiding (or foil if double screened) touches the 'stinger' at any point.

Cheers, Franc

Thanks frank

Some new jargon for me their. nice to learn.

moving my antanae outside to see if that helps. I am sure it will.
Checked all my face plates. Not added sky into the equation yet.
Was mainly testing with broadcast TV and Freeview.
Was hoping to avoid buying a new aerial. Sure I dont need one.

On its own aerial direct to tv works well indoors, I live close to the Sandy Heath transmitter, but although loftbox claims 6db gain I suspect needs a better signal or adds a lot of noise.

Oh, you needed to post in a different forum because I thought you were refering to a Sky Tv distribution system.

Try taking off the faceplate and put a standard aerial connector onto the cable (add a fly lead if it will not reach to the TV) and test the picture before you go to the hassle of moving the aerial.

For freeview though, the aerial really does need to be outside.

One last thing - is your distribution amp powered by 240v? and is the feed in wired into the correct socket?

Cheers, Franc

I will be adding sky soon

Moving house slowly , yet to bring over my Sky box.

Will be adding it soon.

My loftbox is from a transformer to 12v dc I think.

I will check each cable run in each room direct from aerial b4 adding the face plates, just want to eliminate the loftbox as the source of the problem.
