Fitted new HDD but capacity not showing full amount

Earlier today I fitted a 250GB Samsung drive to my Sky+ box. I had a little bit of trouble setting the cable select set correctly, and originally the drive wasn't even recognised. It then was seen as a 32GB drive!!

Eventually I thought I had it sorted, but I set it to record a 1hr program and this said it would use 2% of the drive. I set it to record a 2hr programme and this said it would 3%.

By my calculations this would allow a max recording time of 66hrs - which would mean drive is being seen as approx 120GB.

Can anyone advise as to what I may have done wrongly?

I'm guessing it is connected to the cable select setting - can anyone who fitted a similar Samsung advise as to what they set it at.

Thanks.

If you have a PVR3 then the OS will reserve 80gig for itself and the estimate for required space is always on the high side.

Its a Pace V2 box, if that helps?

So are you saying that I still have this 80GB available to me, or is it gone?

All the info I read about the upgrading of HDDs said that the V2 Pace box could accept a 250GB maximum.

Check the jumpers on the hard drive maybe you have jumped the pins that limit the hard drive capacity. Other than that make sure you have gone through the housekeeping procedure. Also try a force update if all else fails

It looks like everything is OK.

It appears that it is more to do with the box 'rounding up' or approximating the amount of space needed.

I recorded 2 x 2hr films on to it, and it is using 3%.

This means that the total capacity is approx 4hrs x 33 = 132hrs, which would suggest the entire 250GB is now being seen.

Happy with that, although the fan does seem to be on nearly permanently now, even when the box is in standby. But can live with it.

Yep, even if you record a 5 minute cartoon it will state 1% used. This is not a fault it just doesn't do fractions.
