Sky Remote unable to control TV Sound

Hi, as the title says i have just got sky, but the engineer said that some tv's can not have their volumn controlled by the sky remote. Is this true? and if not how can i fix it?

Some tellys don't respond to the Sky remote, like my old Sanyo. Nothing you can do.
