Actually, I thought the opposite.

Having watched Planet Earth immediately before, and then carried on to watch Supervolcano, the PQ was average in comparison.
Some of the shots such as the outdoor nature scenes)were very good - well it was similar subject matter to PE after all. Some studio footage was OK, but some of it didn't look any more impressive than SD (and I don't mean the obvious SD stock footage)

Some of the Jellystone Park scenes were obviously lifted from HD stock footage but still looked nice. The problem for me was the programme itself. I just didn't think it was any good. The characters were unsympathetic, there was too much techno-mumbo jumbo and the scenario was just a rehash of the far superior "Dante's Peak" which also had the bonus of genuine stars Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton in it. One more criticism, coming from the old school of Film making, I absolutely detest with a vengeance this current trend in movies to always have a hand held camera that is constantly moving, zooming and panning around the scene. What's all that about? Have our attention spans become so small that we can't enjoy a beautifully detailed motionless scene? The worst thing is that with a 1080 interlaced signal, the panning/moving shots are the worst to look at. I've got "SuperVolcano" on my hard drive, all 15 Gb of it, but I think I'll clear up the space for two episodes of "Planet Earth".

You can never watch too much Yogi Bear!
Yogi Bear in HD!! Now that I'd like to see.

YOGI: What's the matter Boo-Boo?
BOO-BOO: I can't get the calibration on my HD set right. Either that, or the HD channels are being transmitted at a low bitrate!
