Setting Sky+ to RGB (with no picture) - possible?

I'm considering getting Sky+ ... but I think I might have a problem setting it up. From what I've read the scart output is set to PAL and not RGB.

I have a plasma (TH42PW7) and no scart input - I use a JS Tech to take RGB scart and get signal into my VGA input (currently input is telewest box)

My question / worry - if I buy a Sky+ box, I don't think that I'll get any picture on my plasma - as the signal will be PAL, which won't be converted by JS Tech box, and therefore no picture. Am I right? If so ... is it possible to set up Sky+ to output RGB without having to see on screen menus?

Thanks in advance!

Dez

You'll need access to view the menu system to set the RGB output setting. Plus also to "pair" the Sky card with the box, as Sky need to know what the serial number details etc are off of the box, displayed in the settings menu.

Can you either connect the box to another TV first, or connect the panel using the S-vid or RF connections to enable you to set the outputs?

Don't have your panel, so don't know all your possible connections.

I only have VGA or component inputs at the moment.

In the process of getting another input board for my panel with component, composite and s-video, so perhaps I could use s-video to set the scart output to RGB first, then disconnect and hook up to VGA (via JS Tech Scart to VGA convertor). Guess I'll be looking on ebay for a cheap s-vid cable

Dez

p.s. Thanks

Zedzed, short of using another TV to do the switch, another board with an s-vid input is probably your best bet.

I run s-vid out of my box into the Yam757 and it is doing the up conversion to component. That way I only need one set of cables to my LCD, rather than multiples of SCARTS, components, comp and S-vid.

I didn't/couldn't afford a RGB Scart converter. My next move will be to all HDMI, once that technology has stabilised and the bugs have been ironed out.

Good luck - it'll be worth it in the end.
