Anyone else getting calls from 08000272500?

I replied to a previous thread on the Sky HD forum but seeing as I don't have it or wish to right now I might not get the answer I need.

Call from Scottish phone number!!!

I keep getting calls from this number & either miss them, don't answer or they die on me when I say hello. When you call back it's a Scottish lady saying a company called NTT (or something) is trying to contact you on behalf of their client. A google search took me to the HD forum & proved Sky is probably the Client.

So my question: Has anyone else had these calls & spoken to them & if so, what's it all about?

I'd like to know if they're just trying to flog me something or if they've realised i've unplugged my 9 month old Sky+ box from the phone line?

I imagine Sky would contact me directly about that but would rather avoid calls for a few weeks if they've caught up with me.

Takes the mick really, I've paid BT well over £100 for a line just to get Sky+ upgrade & I've never once plugged a phine into it. Scandalous!!

Dead air is usually the result of a predictive dialer, used by call centres, that does not actually have any spare agents to take the call. I suggest the you register with the telephone Preference Service and then it will be ilegal for them to call you.

I signed up with the telephone preference service and now I get more "selling" calls than ever.

If so you should get details of who calls you and report them to the TPS. Personally I love the TPS, we get no sales calls at all.

(Sorry not really on topic this post).

0870 2402559 just phoned me. I hung up but got enough to be told...

This is an automated service
Do you receive Sky television through a satellite
Hello
Do you receive Sky television through a satellite
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes I am a signed up to TPS.

I called them back to see who they were. DPS or something. Apparently they are a marketing company and it is legal for them to call you irrespective of your status on TPS. I was told not to swear when I told him it was bo!!ox.

Its only legal if you've given permission in the past, usually by ticking/unticking those tick boxes you sometimes see when registering on various websites.

I always make sure I correctly tick those boxes - even those with negative questions. Still doesn't stop some people. Owning several domains I can have any email address so always put a clue in the email address to see where I get spam from.

However I did think that British gas was a culprit once then I got a number of spams from a email spam company who were sending me spam so one of my little used domains but only to emails that I had previously used. The catchall didn't get any so it is not that they were blanket sending. The implication is that either all my 'spam addresses' have been sold on or email traffic is being monitored and email addresses syphoned from this - although I am sure someone will come up with another explanation.

It is NOT legal for people to cold call numbers registered with the TPS. However, I have found in the past that explaining the law to the agent is a complete waste of time because they don't give a s***t. You need to hit the compnay that they work for. Do this by reporting them - action against them IS taken.

THe word Bo!!ox is not actually a swear word. A High Court Judge made that ruling when The Sex Pistols album Never Mind The Bo!!ox! was first released and there was a furore over the album title.

Re: Anyone else getting calls from 08000272500?

I just got a computer generated call from 0870 240 2559 - same message as before, so they are still active.

I thought that it was particularly dodgy for them to ask me to call them back as these numbers can be premium rate. I am also registered with the TPS, so I have complained to them about this. If that doesn't work, I'll make a compleint direct tot he ICO (information Commissioners Office).

They can be fined £5000 for every unsolicited call they make to someone on the TPS or who has told them not to call them, so my recommendation is to register and if they do call, tell their computer not to call (I don't believe the rules say that you have to prove someone was listening to you when you tell them not to call and as they don't provide anything other than a phone number, it is not possible to write to them).

In general terms though I am happy that since I registered with TPS the number of unsolicited calls I have recieved has dwindles to almost nothing.
