Sat radio as the x-sat system in the US is not available in Europe, so you can forget that.
You need an address in the UK or ROI if you want to subscribe to SKY unless you want to fork out loads of money to an agent. If you want CH4, Five and SKY3, you need a Freesat card (aka free-to-view = FTV) which you either can buy from eBay or get your friends to get directly from SKY which costs £20. The card needs to be activated when received, and can cause problems if you're not calling from a UK number. The same goes for a normal SKY subscription. You have to activate the card when it arrives to your UK (or ROI) address based on data from your receiver. Mix packeges don't need to be in the paired box, premium channels do...
BBC and ITV are all free to air, so you don't need any card for that. Interactive won't work as the box need to be hooked up to a landline, and yes HD will work if you can get a box for it. All new HD boxes from Sky are at the moment all under 12 month contract and cost a fortune without...
I would be looking at at PACE 430 or even better the 2600 as these have brilliant tuners for outside the UK.
