a cause for concern...

for the first time since I had it my box decided to power off today and wouldnt come back on, the worrying thing is that it wouldnt even allow me to turn the tv on either...it would come on for 2 secs and then go onto standby. reset the box and all was fine with both box and tv Has anyone else had this?

Unhappy Real cause for concern

Well it happened to me tonight. My Sky hd went off in mid programme, did the usual switched off at the mains waited a few minutes still stuck on standby. Phoned technical services and went through the whole switch off at the mains, unplug hdmi cable and run your fingers over the contacts plug it back in, still not working then switch off at the mains and press the backup button while switching back on at the mains and keep pressing untill the 4 lights come on wait for 10 / 15 minutes for the software to reload. Did this on 2 occasions still stuck on standby. So sky decided to book me an engineer the earliest date they can give me is a week today on a day when no one will be at home. Asked for another date only to be told the computer was only showing October 2007!!!!!!!. the operator thought this rather strange, I thought it was ludicrous, however I now have an engineer calling to my house on a day when I won't be in as there is no other date available. I am left to wait untill the engineer contacts me to try and come to an arrangement with him or to call sky later on in the week in the hope another date becomes available. Anyone thinking of Sky Hd I would wait untill the problems have been sorted out.

Interesting thread.

I posted a thread about 10 days ago where my LCD had gone off during a thunderstorm and would not come back on. The interesting part is that the SkyHD box went off first, immediately followed by the TV. I turned the HD box back on but the panel would not come on at all. I presumed that the storm had knocked out an internal fuse in the panel, however it may be down to the HD box shutting down first. I did not remove the HDMI lead from back of panel - as it was on the wall - maybe if I did then the TV may have powered back up.....who knows.

PS TV is back tomorrow from Panny service centre.....repaired. They probably did nothing but turn it on without the HDMI lead in.
