What Video and TV - Sky launch Mid April
According to What Video and TV, a sky source says the HD service is due to begin mid April with boxes priced at £399.00 and no extra cost if you subsribe to a premium package. The reason for the delay - lack of receivers and increasing demand. Let's hope this is genuine information.

Perhaps they are referring to the "FTA" box mentioned here?

No - definitely the HD box, and as a reputable magazine I wouldn't expect them to give out a date unless they had some faith in their source.

The date may be right (who knows) but there are too many different sources (including Murdoch himself) saying there will be a HD subscription. It would be nice though without a subscription

Release date
I think this sounds ABOUT right. Like any number of you, I ring the Sky Call Centre on a regular basis and when I asked the HD question today I was assured that there is no current release date and there was nothing more they could tell me.
I am heavily involved in running a call centre in a totally different area and I am sure as I can be from my knowledge of how staff can drop hints when they want to that she either knew absolutely nothing or she was an amazing actress. Sky don't pay enough to employ actors that good.
It just means that the wait is almost over but not yet, oh Lord, not yet.
Does anyone have any experience of how Sky operate their waiting lists? Will it be first come first served on the day or will those of us who registered on day 1 (all those weeks ago) get first dibs on the boxes.
Any views?

I think the registration list is only to get early info, but given it takes a long time to distribute so many emails, you're likely to hear about it on this forum before you get your email.
It looks like each dealer/ASA will get an allocation of boxes, so maybe you've really got to pick one and order through them. I've gone with my local installer (I'm first on his unofficial list) and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sky supply to "busy" areas first, rather than the odd person in each town.
However, from the information supplied at work, Sky will be contacting customers who sign up for the service, so it's possible that they will ring the first people who sign up in a first come first served basis, but then if you don't answer the phone when they ring, they'll no doubt ring someone else of whom will then jump up the queue!
Heck, anythings possible. Maybe even alphabetically!

The Sky HD website says you need a digital subscription and a HD subscription to get HD.
