Sky Box Office - Not Receiving DD 5.1
Firstly, I've been a viewer of these forums for a few months now and it has helped solve many, many problems so thanks to everyone for that!!
I can't find any help with this problem so I've decided to take the plunge and register properly!
I have my Sky+ box connected to my surround sound amp via an optical cable. I have set the options to "Dolby D" for the optical output on the Sky menus. Despite this I don't seem to be be able to receive a DD 5.1 signal through my amp. I'm not a Sky Movies subscriber but have recently watched two movies on Sky Box Office (Hostage and Star Wars III), both of which had the "DS" symbol in the info box, but on both occasions the decoder simply displayed "PCM 48" and a normal stereo signal was received.
Any suggestions??! DVDs work fine in DD 5.1, 6.1 and DTS.
Cheers..

Needs to have DD symbol. DS is Dolby Stereo/Dolby Surround.
Look for the DD and away you go.

Currenty only 5 of SKY's movie channels carry DD audio and sometimes the Disney channel. SBO does not carry DD audio.
You may need to manually change your amp to Prologic or DPII which will bring out the surround sound data embedded in the stereo signal.
So you see no real problems with your other kit as such

Aha! I hadn't realised that there were both DS and DD symbols, that would explain it. The film sounded good with PLIIx, but I couldn't help but wish for DD 5.1!!
Thanks both for your help!

Sky box office is stereo only.

always amazes me that.......hey, pay £3 to watch this film......in pro logic......oh wow....
rather pay another 8 or 9 quid and buy it from the supermarket and keep it and have Dolby Digital or DTS!

SKY wanted to provide DD audio on some of the main movie channels and the cost of buying new playout hardware may have been un economical for the return.
The addition of DD audio on more channels now is thanks to the new playout suites bought for the HD service.
