Question Sky Installation DIY?

I'm installing a friends sky digital system in his new house. I can get the dish lined up to get a good signal strength and a good signal quality,it wont lock on and the s/quality keeps going up and down! (keeps losing the s/q )
The lock indicater shows, "Not Locked" mine system shows "OK"
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong???????
Is there something i should be doing in the installers menu ????
Any help gladly accepted.

sounds like it could be an obstruction .

are there any near by trees or anything? . what cable are you using . i don't think that any old coax will do , you need proper sat cable

I understand it can take up to a minute for the box to lock onto the satellite...

The cable the proper stuff as its all the original from the old house. There's no obstructions either!
Could be that I'm not giving it enough time to lock on, I thought there might be something I needed to do before it locked on.

how long as the cable been on the house. the cable has a limited life span . it could be that it has decayed to a point that you are killing the sig so it will not lock .

just a thought

one last point . are you defenate that the dish is pointing at the right satalite . if it is pointing at the old astra satalites then it will not lock but you will still get a signal

i am not calling you stupid or anything it is just very easily done

could just need to be left a few mins though
