JUST ORDERED SKY tv...

got the HD package + broadband+free evening and weekend calls...... all for £28 per month (is this correct?)
that is what the advisor told me and that is what i have signed up to over the phone.
now, im with talk talk for tel/broadband at the moment and i want to know what i do next. im having the sky installed on 2nd sept but the phone line will still be with talk talk, so will the sky box still work?
the sky advisor told me that when the install is done, ring talk talk and cancel my account with them, then..... ring sky to activate my line with sky.....does this all seem correct?

ta.

This could be a can of worms:

Are you in a contract period with Talk Talk? - You may have to pay a cancellation fee.

Is your Line rental payed to Talk Talk or BT? If Talk Talk then another can of worms. If with BT you will need to request a MAC number from Talk Talk - that can be a lengthy process.

Are you prepared to be without phone and broadband for a period of time?
Are you prepared for the possibility of a new phone number?

If I were you I would have investigated the implications of leaving Talk Talk before signing up to Sky.

thanks for reply....
im not in a contract period (signed up 4 years ago for 18months and i have never agreed to re-new a contract).

not sure who i pay line rental to, i assume talk talk due to not getting a bill from BT?

So, once the install of the box is done, how would you advise i move forward? or should i contact talk talk now to get some wheels in motion?

cheers

It may get more complicated, I'm afraid.

If you pay your line rental to TalkTalk then they are using their own equipment in the exchange i.e. LLU (Local Loop Unbundled).
Sky, AFAIK, use BT lines (even though the rental is paid to them) in which case your TalkTalk line may need to be transferred back to BT before Sky can take it over and transfer to their LLU equipment
There may or may not be a charge for this.

Sky CS have given, IMHO, a very simplistic overview of the situation (and left it all to you) and, although I hope I'm wrong, this needs careful investigation to avoid possible charges and/or downtime.

I would certainly contact Talk Talk now and see what is involved, cost/time/equipment wise.
Can they "Return to Donor" the line, (Give it back to BT for Sky to pick up), or will a new line, and phone number, be required?

Once you have this information it will probably be worthwhile calling Sky back and let them know what is happening/will be required, and make a complaint about the lack of knowledge/help from your previous call.

Pleased it seems to be getting sorted, but where did this '£39 charge for changing over the line rental to a sky line' suddenly come from?
Not that you're being charged but had it been mentioned earlier?

In fact all line work is handled by Openreach (a BT Group company)

In other words if there is a fault with a LLU phone line the customer informs TT/Sky etc. but the people who repair the fault are Openreach

Seems his initial enthusiasm may have been dampened...

so, i want to make a complaint to a high level person in either writing or email, does anyone have a email/name/address to make a complaint?

cheers
