Question Reduced sound ?

Hi all.
I have Sky+ in my living room for which I pay a subscription.
In my kitchen, I have a standard Sky box which has served me well with no subscription as I have an old viewing card. However, since I had the SKY + installed the sound on the kitchen TV ( not HD) has been reduced and the remote does not work ( yes, I have changed the batteries).
Question is, Is it the remote that is now dead
Do I need to update the SKY card
Is it coincidental that the fault only occurred after installing the
SKY+ ?
I dont want to paying out any more than I am at the moment to
SKY.

Any comments Ladies/Gentlemen!

Has the old Sky box always been in the kitchen - ie no Sky in the lounge?
Or are you saying that when you moved the box to the kitchen, the sound on your kitchen TV is not as loud as on your lounge TV?

How are the kitchen box/TV connected?

The old Sky box has always been in the kitchen connected to the Satellite dish before it was converted to quad LAN.
It is VERY quiet and I cannot increase the volume either on the set or via the controller.

How, in the kitchen, are the Sky box and TV connected - Scart, RF?

Question

They may have done in the past, but not for the past 2 weeks. Troublesome teenager! Why and how would this effect the remote control or the sound

Just had message come on screen saying @aply for your new viewing card now!
I did that but then read that I should be getting one FREE as I am already subscribing to SKY, but they are saying it will cost me £20.00

OK, back to basics.

I assume you have a terrestrial aerial in the kitchen.
Disconnect everything from the TV and check your terrestrial channels, (Freeview or analogue). Is the sound OK with them? If not, using your TV's remote control, check all the sound settings.
If still no sound your TV is knackered - which I doubt.

When all that is OK plug your Sky box Scart back into the TV. Tune your TV to the AV channel and check everything. (When you say your remote is not working have you tried pressing the Sky button before any other buttons?).
If no sound go into the Settings menu on the Sky box and check the Audio settings.

Let us know your results.

Unplugged everything but all I got was a snow screen, its an old analogue set that is now connected through the sky box to the dish outside, it wont work on its own it has not been reset for freeview or anything. I did manage to get into audio settings and it was on low so I increased it to the maximum but it has made no difference to the output from the set. I am thinking it could be the Sky card that is not functioning properly, could that affect the sound? Please dont patronise me of course I pressed the sky button first! It isnt that there isnt any sound, it is just so low and cannot be increased, when I am in the dining area of the kitchen I can barely hear it.

The viewing card cannot cause low sound.
Forgetting about Sky for a moment take your TV into a room where you have a terrestrial aerial and plug it in/tune the TV to any programme...if you still have low audio the set is at fault.

Can't do that, all the TV's in the house are connected to the dish I have no terrestrial aerial. Thanks anyway. Methinks I will need to change the TV.

result!, have changed the TV and now the sound is working fine. The only problem outstanding is the SKY remote which uis not working properly, will SKY give me another one FREE do you think? lol

Thanks to all who have tried to help me with this problem.
