Upgraded To Sky HD, Want to use old box upstairs

Hi Everyone, I've just upgraded from a standard sky box to Sky HD, The Engineer has installed a quad LNB and I was going run an extra feed to my old sky box in my sons bedroom so he can use it to access the free channels on there.

The question i would like to ask is that if I do this how do i gain access to these free channels? I've got an old sky card (blue card with yellow house) which I was thinking I could just slot in and get the free channels, would this work or would I have to ring sky up for a freeview card?

Thanks in advance

The only things you might need a card for are C4 and Five.

Without a card you will receive all the FTA channels but BBC1 may revert to London and ITV1 to West Midlands.
A card is required for FIVE to appear on the EPG although this can be tuned in manually and accessed through 'Other Channels'
The old 'yellow house' card you have may have been de-activated (and therefore useless) if you have been issued a new 'white' card.
A freesatfromsky card (£20 from Sky) will ensure the correct BBC1/ITV1 regions, that FIVE appears on 105 and the EPG and gets Sky3

FIVER/FIVE US are not free and need a subscription.
A list of all channels available with a FSFS card is below:
FREESAT from Sky - What's on TV - FREESAT from Sky

The blue card became disabled once you activated the white card that was sent out to replace it.

The only channels that are FTV as opposed to FTA (so require a card to decrypt them, even though it doesn't have to be linked to a Sky subscription) are Sky 3, Fiver and Five US. The version of Five which appears on Sky's EPG is also FTV, but you can tune in the FTA one via the Other Channels option.

You can either use an expired (but not disabled) Sky subscription card - or you can purchase a Freesatfromsky card for £20. But, as already said, it will only give you access to three encrypted channels, plus will put your local ITV and BBC regions into the EPG, rather than the defaults of BBC London and ITV West Midlands.
