Join SKY with no phone line?

Hi all.

I've done a quick search and can't seem to come up with enough info on this, so I thought I'd ask afresh.

A friend of mine has a caravan that he'd like to have SKY installed at. There's no phone line so can't keep it connected for the required period. I know there're rumours that SKY no longer actively police single box installs for phone line connection, or charge a nominal fee for a 'no phone line connection' but is this definite? He can't have SKY at home due to no line of sight, so can't just take his home box with him when he goes away so the install has to be done at the caravan.

If the 'not policing' is right, would he better using a local installer anyway from the outset who he could chat to about the lack of a line?

Is another way around this to source a box from elsewhere and just get the viewing card from SKY? Not getting the box from them must mean no requirement to hook up to a phone line. He'd just need to pay a local installer to put up the dish and cable.

Any info appreciated.

Re: Join SKY with no phone line?

Sky will do a manual initialisation for £25, no problem.

Re: Join SKY with no phone line?

If he buys a used Sky Digibox he can Phone Sky and ask for a "second-hand contract". He can DIY or get an independent to set up the dish. It's not especially difficult.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pass the info on to him and see where he goes with it.
