would like to upgrade to sky+hd

hi. i have had sky plus for over a year and wouldl ike to upgrade to HD for the new series of lost, 24, battlestar etc. the best offer i can see is £99 for the box plus £60 installation with £15 credit, would this make it £144 in total plus the extra £9.75 a month?

can anyone explain why for a new customer the installation is £30 and an exisitng customer pays double that? i dont understand that all.

but on a positive note has anyone seen the above shows in HD is it worth watching them in HD.

Re: would like to upgrade to sky+hd

Check out the bigger multiple page thread where people are posting how they have hagled sky down.

Yo need to get through to retentions and threaten to cancel because of:

- Got a HDTV now watching lots of blu-rays......
- Tempted by the non-monthly fee of Freesat.
- Hard times for money in this economic climate, trimming back spending.

Just be polite and haggle a bit, and a number of people have got it down to £99 inc installation for the upgrade to HD, which is pretty good value. If you are lucky with the person you get on the line and are good at haggling, ~£50-60 seems to be possible on rare occassions.

Because we were all new customers once..... and like most businesses sky offers incentives to new customers.

Try haggling with them.

YES. - the sound in particular made a real difference to the previous 24.

The same reason why virtually every annual service contract type company give new customers introductory offers, once they've got you as a customer their hard work is over.

Best Sky HD offers after threatening cancellation...

Also the discount they are willing to give you firstly seems very dependant who you talk to, some agents are happy to do a deal, others don't give a toss. Secondly how much money you are paying for you monthly contract. The cheap 20quid or so they don't seem to want to budge unless you start taking movies and sport.

Re: would like to upgrade to sky+hd

i took the plunge and ordered hd. i phoned but they would not move an inch when i said i was going to virgin, they just said that virgin only has one channel. so its getting installed on 6th feb, that was earliest date i could get. £99 for box plus £60 for installation.

Re: would like to upgrade to sky+hd

Two weeks ago I tried to order a Sky HD upgrade on Sky's website. The price was £99 + £60 install. There was an offer of a £15 credit on my account if I ordered online so I was happy with that.

The website didn't accept my order so I called up hoping to get them to match the offer over the phone. Without even haggling the operator offered me the upgrade for only £49 + £60 install, AND the £15 credit, even though I'd already told her it was £99 etc. on the website!

Obviously I was happy with that, but Sky's pricing policy is bizarre. Judging from what people here say it almost seems different for each operator!
