You didn't mention the important bit, only available through certain retailers and on the premise that you buy a HDTV to qualify for such a deal. You said that Sky HD would be £49 after Xmas which is also untrue as this offer was available before that. There is your false info and that is my conclusion.

Its up to the retailer, nobody at SKY cares whether a TV is bought, its a sop to retailers to let them say you can only have it if you buy a TV at the same time.
From what they say there is no money in SKY whatsoever, partly because by the time they have fitted it and done a couple of service calls under guarantee - it actually costs them money. Don't even get them started on how they claw back the right amounts for all the offers they do.
Anyway, point is SKY vans in towns all over UK usually undercut local ASAs, attaching the sale of a new TV to the offer is a friendly gesture by SKY to the independent retailers.
If a retailer wants to they can " do " the offer, without selling a TV, whether they want to - thats something else.

I managed to get the online deal out of Sky with free installation as a new customer.

(£99 HD installed with £50 M&S vouchers and £15 credit off first bill), so in my mind that works better than £49 from Currys, and I am being installed in 7days.

When I went into Currys to ask about the £49 deal, I mentioned the 'need to buy a HD tv bit' of the deal and the salesman didn't even realise that you needed to have bought the TV, so who knows you may be lucky if you try it!

I am no expert but my understanding is that you needed to buy an HD TV from the stores. However, I also agree that it is up to the store whether they do it and Sky would not know whether you have bought an HD TV or not.

My problem is getting Currys to do it because they don't seem very interested, although the problems seem to be with their connection to Sky not acknowledging the advertised deal. Even so, their enthusiasm is completely absent. I will be trying again today (third attempt).

Ordered Sky HD yesterday 29th Dec 2008, I am an existing customer with Sky SD.

Best price I could get upgrade online only as they will not do this offer over the phone? Although some one from sky talked me through the whole process as I don`t login to the site much?

Hi guys

My first post here! I was in Comet Peterborough on 27th and picked up a leaflet with the dicussed offer on it. Says you need to buy to get Sky HD for £49 with free install for new customers.

Existing customers (like me) are ripped into paying £60 for setup and taking multiroom.

Really don't get their customer retention strategy, but I guess that's well documented on these forums!

I have just called sky re the offer and they told me they could not match this......

They also said they had recieved calls where currys had told customers neither could they support it so now I am at a bit of a loss.

I am a brand new customer and am about to purchase a new hd tv (not from currys mind you) and thought to get the best out of it I should invest in SKY just feel a bit miffed at having to outlay £99 plus instalation.

Has any one else had any more joy with sky direct?

guys. it all depends on the store.
the sky deal makes the stores good margin, officially you have to but a tv but most store will overlook this.

just say something like you bought one couple of weeks ago.

as i say depends if the staff can be bothered or not.
if you see a senior member of staff you might get more luck.

Finally got the SKy HD at £49 from Currys including installation cost. Found someone helpful. It doesn't show on their computer systems so they have to phone Sky direct who do the deal over the phone.
