Old Sky HD box Question?

Hi, I have a old Sky HD box that i kept hold of following a subscription that i cancelled over a yaer ago.

I have just moved house and i have taken out a new contract with sky with the normal sky plus box / subscription.

This is due to be installed later today, my question is will the old HD box work with the new card and allow access to all the normal sky plus functions? As I just prefer the look of the HD box over the basic sky plus box.

I`m not bothered about the HD channels and i am aware that i won`t have access as the subsciption doesn`t cover it.

Thanks in advance.

It will work as a normal sky+ after you have paired the card.

You will also get BBC HD, C4 HD and after the EPG has updated itself, you will be able to manually tune ITV HD.

Only downside (apart from reliability issues), is that Anytime will be filled with HD programmes which you won't be able to watch.

This varies! Presently Anytime has a least half SD programmes. It isn't hard to turn off if it gets too annoying anyway!

Re: Old Sky HD box Question?

one other benefit you'll get is the much larger hard drive in the HD box

I'm sure if you ask the installer he'll pair the card for you as he would have had to do that with the sky+ box anyway

Re: Old Sky HD box Question?

Mr Sky Man said it would not work, but after he left i switched boxes and it all seems ok, except i can`t record some channels i guess because its not paired.

Will sky do it for me over the phone or not as its a HD box? I don`t want to get pushed into a new HD contract...

Sky will do it for you over the phone.

You may get some CS noob trying to tell you that you need an HD sub. If that happens, put the phone down and ring back a few minutes later.

Re: Old Sky HD box Question?

But do make VERY clear that you are doing this independently and have not got a subsidised box via Sky and that you do not want the HD sub.

There have been reports of the sub being charged as a matter of presumption otherwise since Sky regard any box bought via them as being reduced in price to compensate for the HD sub they then charge for a year.

As stated above, whatever they say, you CAN pair this without taking out an HD sub but you need to be clear they have understood that before ringing off.
