Just been out in the highstreet and saw to SKY reps so inquired to prices.....

First Rep: SKY HD Box £129.99 conversation ended there.

Second Rep: Sky HD Box £75, free instalation, free standard box, free instalation, free phone line instalation, full package in both rooms phone and broadband £67 a month.

Done Deal!

What's going on with the inconsistent prices? I'm a Sky customer, and I rang Sky today to discuss Sky+HD and they wanted to charge me £259 for the box and installation. I told them to shove it!

I live in a flat and I only have the one aerial. I believe this just means I cannot record one channel and watch another at the same time, is that correct?

Yup, I had that deal offered to me back in october (49+15)but I didn't wanna wait 4 weeks for installation so turned it down

Sorry, not much to go on. But I think there must be something going on at Sky. There quite possibly is some talk about scrapping the £10 HD subscription as there was absolutely no need for the salesman to mention it otherwise as he had already sealed the deal when he told me about it.

The rumour mill keeps on turning...

I'm hanging on until it becomes drastically cheaper or the extra monthly charge is dropped or reduced. The amount we spend on Sky each month is rediculous (full package of channels, 2 Sky+ and 1 normal Sky) as it is!

That and I've used my only HDMI on a Blu Ray player. Hmm... (could use component but no idea how that might come out!)

I know somebody who works for Sky - he's in R&D.
Now I know not all people at Sky will know what is going on with regards pricing etc.
However he assures me that the £10 HD subs will not be dropped during 2009.

I'd sure like to prove him wrong - but everything he's passed on to me in the past has been accurate, so I've got no reason to not believe him this time.

It won't be. Sky are struggling to keep up with demand for HD with the sub.

Why would they drop it and lose millions per year that is giving us more and more HD channels and programming?

Just got of the phone to sky, same old story:
Sky+HD Box £99.00
Standard Setup £60.00

That's if you take sky broadband (I already have it) and sky telephone package (free eve & w/e calls at no extra cost apparently). Taking multiroom won't reduce the cost further.

She didn't know anything about any upcoming sale and couldn't offer me any better deal. I told her it was too expensive since Sky already get over £500 a year from me!

Next step: threaten to cancel my broadband and sky+ subscriptions and see what they say next...

He may have done, but as he doesn't work at BSkyB any more, it's neither here nor there.

The fact that BSkyB has just had one of their best quarters, despite the economic downturn, shows that in hard times, people are prepared to spend more on their home comforts and less on going out etc.

Around September many folk posted about getting an HD box for £75 with a £30 install (for existing customers).

With this in mind I called only to be told it would cost £60 for the install. Decided to sign up but waited till the final moment (having gone through all the "paperwork" over the phone) to suggest that there was a £30 deal available. Was told it had been but now they had been warned not to offer it.

I did not sign up.

Three days later the £75 + £30 deal appeared online (with a further £15 rebate).

It may be the £49 deal will surface.

I see Sky have scrapped the M&S deal for new customers, it is just £15 online credit now, with things like 3 months free phone line rental & broadband for those who sign up for that.

Ok i can confirm that you can get the £49 deal from currys but not all of them will do it without buying a hd-tv first.It all depends on who you approach and how you approach them.

I headed straight for the TV section and grabbed a fella in his early 20s and said im after the Sky HD £49 deal and he said yeah no problem but there system was running very slow at the moment (Understandable this time of year) so it would be easier to just ring sky myself,,, to which i replied "Ive rang sky and they said i can only get the deal through currys as its a retail special blaah blaah blaah" basically just filled his head with what he needed to hear and after a good 45 minutes messing about with there computers and credit check etc i was sorted.

So yes the deal does exist but just be carefull how you approach it

that doesn't make sense though, all the posters and point of sales in currys clearly state the offer is only when purchasing a HDTV.

They told me the warranty wasn't valid unless it was installed by a sky engineer as they "may need to change some settings on the dish"... Hmmm...

Personally I'm going to hold out for a few more weeks and see what may transpire in January...

Bear in mind you are getting a fresh years warranty on the dish, cabling and box.

As i said it depends on the store...who you approach...and how you approach it.

I didnt even mention buying the HDTV first and niether did there staff.I didnt even notice any in store advertising for this deal... just a board with the old £75 deal with some spaces where the leaflets were ment to be.

Just try a couple of different departments or a bit of blagging here and there and you should get lucky!!

i just went in and said can i have that and i dont wanna buy a tv and the boy said aye no worries! can i buy it though and then when sky contact me for an installation date can i ask to add on the phone and broadband? or do i just say to currys and they can also add phone and broadband?

Just got the £49 Currys deal £109 with the install charge but oh well , said to the guy i want the deal but dont want tp buy the TV and he said 'no probs' ........

Only thing is , ive got a £9.75 multi-room charge showing on my receipt , but i already pay for multi room , im gonna swap boxes ????
