Constant no signal 29 problems..help

Moved into my new place just over a year ago, but have been plagued with no signal 29 errors.
Generally, they happen when the box has been switched off, and it then becomes impossible to get a signal back.
Anyway, I hadnt had a problem for a few months, but then it suddenly went strange when I was hoovering. (plug in different room, nothing else went wrong etc). So I switched on and off, and got error 29
I tried everything to get it working, installer menu, reconnecting leads into box, resetting various menus, switching leads over, turning on and off, taking the card out etc etc etc.
Eventually, after 3 days I decided to try a new lead from B&Q, and lo and behold..it was working again (though only 1 feed has ever worked even though I have 2 in my flat)
Assuming that the lead was the problem, I didnt think that turning the box off would be a problem, but I was wrong. The same pesky message has appeared, and I have no signal again. Again, I have tried all of the above options, but it still has no signal.

Despite my research, it seems that not all error 29 can be fixed by resetting LNB, etc etc. The only consistency with my fault is that it happens whenever I turn my box off.

Any ideas..please

Don't know if you have tried already, but reset the Default Transponder ( Services>4>01 Select ). Press red to reset, and Save New Settings. The values should be 11.778, V, 27.5, 2/3.

Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

Yep, tried that. It was ok already. Thanks though.
Like I said, everything looks perfect, but it can never find a signal after a power down.
Is it a good idea to leave it on standby for hours? That has never worked till now. I generally find that if its going to work, it is as soon as I turn it on (for about the 10th time of plugging in again )

The box should be left in standby when not in use. Not unplugged at the mains. Maybe the constant plugging/unplugging is doing it no good. The boxes are designed for a constant power supply. Do you unplug your fridge when you're out?

Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

It only gets switched off when I change AV equipment, which is very rarely (months since the last time).
The problem is that I have to keep turning it on an off to get it started again once its unplugged once

Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

Well try leaving it on all the time. I don't think it makes any difference to the box. If the problem persists, I'd be on to Sky about it. The box should not be losing its settings on standby.

Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

I do leave it on all the time (well months at a time).
Unfortunately, I think its going to take me days before I get the pot luck of it coming back on

Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

Ok,
I have done some more investigation. Took it to a friends house, and plugged in. It worked fine. Brought friends box back to mine, and that worked fine..great. Then tried mine at home, and bingo, it was working.

Anyway, thought that was strange. But the hard drive was whirring at full speed for 12 hours so I turned it off, and then lost signal again.
Took it back to my friends, and couldnt get a signal for toffee, even though my friends box works fine.
So the problem is definitely my box, but it doesnt explain why it works sometimes, but not others. Any advice please?

Also , when it didnt work around a year ago (for a few days) I tried it elsewhere, and it worked straight off. Took it home, and it was fine again.

It is almost as if moving it in transit affects it, yet that makes no sense as it works until you turn it off.

Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

Also, the box was bought from Ebay, so would SKY still honour something if I paid £65 for a callout?
Or should I just sell on ebay as faulty for £80 odd, and buy a new 1?
I was hoping that it was something I could fix myself

Wink Re: Constant no signal 29 problems..help

I had the "no signal - 29" problems, I tried resetting & followed all guides to reinstall but to no avail, however by simply turning off the power supply, disconnecting the aerial lead from the back of the box then reinserting it, upon turning my box back on all my channels are back & everything is great!!
