Problems with ITV Playback

Like a lot of posters here, not sure if this is just a glitch or indicative of a greater problem.

For the last two days, my wife has been watching "goldenballs" (yeah, I know but she enjoys it whilst having a cuppa after work). We normally record it as she gets in about 5:15 so she watches it whilst it's still recording. Last night she had blocking and picture freezing so I checked the signal strength/quality and it was nearly non existent on lnb1 whilst still ok on lnb2 (should add it was raining at the time). Tonight, she called me in to see that the picture had frozen although the sound was continuing. I started playback again and it seemed fine until it got to the same point and the picture froze and a loud screeching noise came over the audio. I tried to jump in to 15mins of the recording but the same picture appeared on screen whilst the audio was still playing normally. I tried FF but again, the picture wasn't moving but the audio was clearing going forward. Signal strength and quality are both excellent on both lnbs.

I've recorded other items in the last few days and everything's been fine as far as I can tell. I do have a new WD drive in there (been in now about 3 months). I'm wondering if these symptoms are indicative of a drive problem or the infamous power supply problem (or indeed if it's indicative of anything else at all).

Any of these symptoms sound familiar?

Re: Problems with ITV Playback

May just be weather related to this recording. One option is to simultaneously record the programme on 103 (Your local ITV) and 993 (ITV London) assuming they are on different transponders in your case and see if there is any difference when played back. Bear in mind the signal strength/quality to which you refer is normally that for the STB default transponder 11.778V I believe and it can differ for different transponders and according to which satellite they are on at 28degrees east. I suspect it was just the weather if a one off phenomenon.

Re: Problems with ITV Playback

I have the same at the moment but just with channel 4.... channel 4 +1 is fine no problem...

My second sky box upstairs also has the same issue with channel 4 (Sky 104)

I have the full package and this is the only channel i get very bad blocky patches on the screen and looks like interference... BB last night was so bad that i couldnt watch it.... I have had my HD box (unmodified) 6 months

As its happening on box sky boxes .... i checked my signal strength and both are at about halfwaypoint...

What could this be ???? any ideas guys....

Re: Problems with ITV Playback

Have you tried rebooting the box. There have been some changes of transponders for both ITV and C4 recently and sometimes problems like this occur after a change and are resolved with a reboot.
