Sky+ HD Outputs

Hi everyone, just signed up to upgrade from sky+ to HD and wondered what the latest outputs are on the back of the latest boxes. I understand that component has now been ditched.

Thanks

Yep the newest boxs are hdmi only but you may well get one of the component boxes as there are still a lot of new ones kicking around.

Re: Sky+ HD Outputs

Just got HD installed today and my box is HDMI only, also has analogue and digital audio outputs plus 2 scart and one S-Video socket and telephone / USB sockets.

Interesting though is that there is a SATA socket which makes me wonder whether it can handle an external drive as well?

Oh and picture quality is as you would expect ..... superb

Re: Sky+ HD Outputs

I have a spare HDMI but just bought an optical for connection to my Denon 2805 AV amp ( Non HDMI ) for the sound and HDMI for the TV I guess I got this right.

Re: Sky+ HD Outputs

You have to use Optical if you want DD 5.1 output, so, yep HDMIs not an option.

In the US a number of PVRs shipped with USB and/or eSATA connectors, and a year or two after launch the satellite/cable operators (and in the case of the new Tivos, Tivo) quietly upgraded the boxes to allow for external storage (locked to the box - no transferring drives between PVRs - they have to be formatted by the machine they are used with)

So it is up to Sky I guess... I presume they want to make money out of it somehow!
