Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

I think you'll find the Slingbox Solo (assuming that is the model that can accept an HD signal) won't actually 'send' it in HD.
I think it might be higher quality that the previous models of slingbox, but ultimately they're designed to stream across a network / internet, and pumping HD down there ain't gonna happen.

I'm pretty sure as well it'll only take component (not HDMI), so if you've got a new HDMI only box, then it's also a no-go.

Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

afterthought: if you're only concerned about receiving in SD, then it will work fine.... just don't expect HD quality.

nope need HD in the kitchen for the wife - picture coming to that TV is only on normal coax cable so quality very poor.

Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

Seems overkill to use a slingbox for this, might be worth looking at a video sender. I bought a phillips one (dont recall the model at the mo) and it was fantastic. It used the scart output from the box and the picture was top draw. Also sends the remote signal too.

this of course wouldn't be HD but would should be a big improvement.

Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

Do you really want HD in the kitchen? If so how much do you want to spend? Most solutions are more money than a second HD subscription.

How you do it depends on what type of sky HD box you have (component out or not) how far away the second room is and whetehr a cable can be run between the two.

There is currently no wireless system of transmitting native HD. The slingbox pro will stream HD I think but it is downgraded to SD.

There are a few HD capture devices eg the Hauppauge PVR that could conceivably stream via windows MCE but drivers are currently not available for this purpose.

costly solutions include;

RF (SD and mono!)
Component (?20m max)-HD
HDMI will nead splitters/repeaters to achieve 20m-HD

Are you running the coax from the Sky HD box to the kitchen?

I have a 10m run of component + audio cables from the Sky HD box to the HDTV in the kitchen.

I also have a 32" CRT TV in our outside kitchen, connected by coax from the RF on the Sky HD box and the picture is not bad by any means.

Plus we have another CRT in the bedroom connected by SCART to a Video sender and the picture/signal is good.

So altogether we have four TVs connected from our Sky HD box. Two in HD and two in SD.

Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

thanks all

we live in a townhouse with the kitchen HDtv in opposite corner + under a cement 1st floor to the HD box - so getting a decent cable to it is near impossible.
really i just want a decent picture to the 32" samsung 1080i so possibly a video sender might create a better pic at a decent cost. the pic we get a moment shows interference from the remote at the moment.

Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

Well this looks like the video sender i bought http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-SLV3...7342114&sr=8-3
I used it when i was having my ground floor refurbed, had it send SD pictures to my lcd and i was very happy with the results. There can occassionly be interference but that was generally caused by Wi Fi. My advice would be see which retailer will give you a money back guarantee and try one out. Certainly seems most cost effective if nothing else.

Re: SlingBox Solo + SKY HD

on the subject of slingbox a few questions.
1) Has anybody used it with sky HD and skybroadband mid package. What were the results like.
2) I understand you need to position an IR device on the hd box. Where exactly does this sit, does it look really ugly, does it interfere with normal remote use, and does it work well with remote use from a laptop (mac book im thinking)
3)Any news on slingplayer for the iphone. This plus turn by turn gps(tom tom maybe) and news that lagging issues have been ironed out with software updates might just make me willing to move to iphone.

Thanks in advance

1.) I have used it on a SD output from the Sky HD box to Sling box with an unlimited net access tarriff from 3......everything worked perfectly.

2.) the IR blaster can have the wire trailed underneath the unit and the arm slightly extended out infront of the Sky HD box. Very unobtrusive and barely noticeable. Never noticed it interefere or clash with anyother IR device.

3.) I have not used it with an Iphone but have with a Nokia E65 on 3 network as outlined in 1.)
Works perfectly although once the novelty wore off i barely used it.......eitherway it always get plenty of amazed reactions when showing off down the pub and you tune into skysports news..........or bangbabes if your mates are like mine lol.

I think the IR sensor is on the right of the Sky box but in my experience the arm of the blaster could be placed anywhere along the front.
