I've got an issue where when I connect my Sky HD box to my amp via optical the music is slow (and I mean slow) within the sky tv guide menu, Also lip sync whilst watching a program is total out of sync.

I don't experience this issue if I connect the optical cable from my TV to the amp (I connect the Sky HD box to the TV via HDMI). Also phono leads from the Sky HD box to the amp is fine..

what's causing this issue.. Is it the dreaded PSU issue ?

A slight delay is introduced by the box handling the DD. It can also be made worse by the picture processing in the TV, but when outputting via the TV speakers/optical out this is corrected by circuits in the TV.

In the services menu under Audio options is Optical Delay. You can set this to correct the lip sync, mine is set to 200ms which makes the issues un-noticable, for you it maybe different.


As for the slow music, I have had that a few times, it generally sorts itself after a few hours.

It weird ? As I said, if I connect the tv via optical to the amp its fine, but via the Sky HD box to the amp .. forget about it !! I don't mind keeping it like that but I don't think that I will get a true DD signal this way...

I've turned it over to one of the movie channels that's currently showing a film with DD and the DD indicator on the amp is not lighting up. If I connect the Sky HD box to the amp via optical the DD sign lights up.. Am I right in thinking that the Sky HD box only sends a stereo signal via HDMI

You will not get DD from a optical cable connected to your TV only stereo. The HDMI cable from a SKY HD box only carries stereo and if you could convert to 5.1 over the HDMI cable (DVD player etc) the TV still would not pass 5.1 via optical.

Just rang Sky, there coming out on Saturday to hopefully replace the box.. I've experienced other issues with the box recently like reboots and fail recordings.

I presume you're experiencing the problem when connecting your HD box to you Sammy HT-TX35R all in one... If so it's worth reading the thread on your amp here >

There is a known issue with lip-sync with this amp, fortunately Samsung have realesed a firmware upgrade within the past couple of weeks. Somebody has has helpfully uploaded this - it's all in the past months worth of posts.

Yes, I applied the fix and it does indeed fix the issue with lip sync.. but people only experienced this if the optical cable was connected from the TV to the amp not directly from a Sky+/HD box to the amp. Hopfully a new Sky HD box will resolve this issue. Has anybody else had a swap out recently.. Do they swap it for a Pace/Samsung HD box ?

Just an update, Sky came out today and swap out the box. They swapped it for a new box (had yellow stickers on it)
