Eurovision - sound fault on HD?

Seem to be hearing just the vocals and not the background music?

Eurovision in HD, uh... sound..?

I... uh... accidentally come across the Eurovision on BBC HD while channel hopping and it seems we're only getting 1 of the 5.1 audio channels, so only the vocals can be heard not the music. BBC1... uh... which I also stumbled across while channel hopping seems fine in stereo

My amp is showing "Mono" - how wild is that????

Same for me, and I'm on Virgin. Guess it must be an issue with the broadcast and not isolated to any individual platform.

Is it just me or is there a problem with BBCHD tonight with eurovision.
My Amp is only showing Stereo and i can't hear any music (maybe not a bad thing ) just the 'singing' and Tel's voiceover.

Just noticed other threads so ignore this one. I was too slow typing :-)

Re: Eurovision in HD, uh... sound..?

Yep - I started watching on HD and I wondered why that first bloke singing the intro bit (or was it a woman) had no backing stuff - switched to SD BBC1 and all is ok. Come on BBC the picture is looking stunning but I cant watch this with sound like this.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ashamed by the BBC. They cannot even get the sound right. I really give up by their level of incompetence.

Re: Eurovision - sound fault on HD?Seems to be

Yup same here...

The centre channel is very quiet, my amp is showing that it is in Dolby Digital but there is nothing on any of the other 4.1 channels.

Nice... just imagine all the people holding "Hey-I've-got-Eurovision-in-HD!" parties... DOH!! Gutted! (Not me by the way!!! Errmm... its the Mrs watching it!! )

Re: Eurovision in HD, uh... sound..?

It may not be the BBC, it maybe Serbia providing only 1 of the 5.1 sound channels (or the stereo of course).

Still, the BBC could have realised by now and just pumped the stereo feed through the HD channel.

Of course it could be Terry demanding everything is turned down low so we can hear him clearly

...and btw, Andy Abs did a pretty good job and Germany sound awful

The technology we have in our hands is too powerful, the BBC maybe decided that 5.1 Eurovision was going to be too much for us

No doubt all the BBC engineers will all be in the pub, not watching it. How's that for dedication to their job?

On another post about the sound someone mentions that they are having the same problem on Virgin so I don't think its the BBC's fault.
