Can you strengthen the signal quality?

This might be a silly question, but I've got Sky HD, previously had Sky+, and have a good signal strength, but hardly any signal quality.

It seems to happen at this time of year when the trees at the side of our ground are leafy. If they are waving about in the wind, my signal quality improves, but if the trees are just slightly moving in a slight breeeze, no chance. (Yes, they need cutting back.)

This means I can't watch half of my channels, and get loads of picture and sound break-up. No signal being received on many channels too. BBC1 and ITV are OK, some movie channels (including Premier) don't work, the shopping channels don't work, it's so bliddy annoying!

I'm getting cheesed off with this happening every year - is there anything I can do to strengthen the signal quality??????????

Have the dish moved away from the line of site of the trees or cut the trees back, it is as simple as that, there is no magic cure.

The dishes also can come out of alignment throughout the year with wind etc.
You can get an alignment kit or call and say your signal is unacceptable and you would like it re-aligned.

I seem to remember that as long as you have a LOCK then you are okay. That is because of the nature of digital as opposed to analogue.

The only problem there is that you can get picture & sound drop outs if it drops lock briefly, as well as some blocking/pixelation.

I had the same problem. The only solution was moving the dish.

In my case, the dish was originally on the chimney as high as it could get. But as the trees grew over the years, they interferred more and more.
The solution wasn't to put the dish even higher (on a pole), but to move it to the front of our house so it was further away from the trees. It is actually lower than it used to be, but now the line of sight is over the tree tops (for now at least...)

Re: Can you strengthen the signal quality?

There is only one thing to remember - just get clear line of sight to the Sat at 28 Deg E. Absolutely no trees in the way... It doesn't matter how high above the ground the dish is. Oh, and make sure it's mounted nice and tight on the pole so it can't move out of alignment - as it's quite critical. A cheap Satellite signal strength meter will aid here - rather than the expense of calling out an installer to align it.

Re: Can you strengthen the signal quality?

Anyone know the angle of elevation required for clear line of sight? Obviously this will depend on where you live, but I would like to know the figure for the lattitudes around London. I have a similar issue with high winds, and I'd like to prove it's the trees (and not just a dodgy dish) before I take action.
