Quality of sky movies HD

I am shortly upgrading all my kit. At the moment I watch TV thro set top box and regularly rent DVDs.

I am tempted with sky HD but wondered how the picture and sound quality compare to DVD?

If sky HD is favourable then the money saved on DVD rental would help justify the sky HD rental.

Re: Quality of sky movies HD

HD movies from SKY wipe the floor with DVD as you would expect but selection wise you are going to get the latest movies sooner on DVD and as of yet some studios (warner being the main one) are not shown in HD.

Basically if you are not already a SKY Movies subscriber the cost of getting SKY HD and the required subscriptions (£44 a month) to view SKY Movies HD is to my mind an awful high investment even putting aside the cost of the display and the STB itself.

To give you a real world comparison, when I play sky HD movies on my projector (not hi-def but 1024 x 576) the quality is better than DVD.

On my 32" HD tv its hard to tell the difference from a distance, but you can see it.

On my 37 inch plasma you can see a difference between a dvd & Sky HD, but it's not huge but the difference between SD movies on sky & HD ones is massive
