Anyone compared native 1080i to 720p downscaled pictures?

I am thinking of getting a Sharp LC52XD1E, with native 1920 x 1080 pixel display, for my living room, with a SkyHD box to feed it. I already have a Sky HD box in the basement feeding a DLP 720p projector, and a Lumagen scaler to upscale SD and downscale 1080i HD pictures.

My question is: Would I see a noticeable improvement in PQ watching Sky HD in 1080i, with the Sharp TV deinterlacing only, compared to the very good but not stunning processed 720p pictures I get on my large basement screen?

Sometimes you just don't want to sit in total darkness. I like the idea of watching HD upstairs, but do people on the forum who have seen true 1080i/p believe it is worth the price premium over 720p, relying on the TV to downscale Sky HD's 1080i output.

Also, anyone got a LC52XD1E yet? Opinions?
