can anyone advise how to connect HD box to Yamaha YSP800 speaker.and still get the HD and the Yamaha on screen set up

I'd imagine you use Optical Out from the HD box to the YSP and connect the YSP to an appropriate input on your TV for its on-screen menu, S-Video for example.

I use my YSP-1 the same way your looking to go without any problems.
